Flying Saucer FYSG Prototype #6 Brown Barge Light Aged

The Flying Saucer blends retro and modern styles, inspired by the concept of the New Space Age.

Model No. 6 is the ‘Brown Barge’, where you can feel the texture of the mahogany with your ears and skin.

Prototype No. 6, featuring an SG body and a Flying V headstock, is a model stripped down to the absolute bare essentials.

The selected mahogany body and neck are finished with a matte texture, creating a sophisticated instrument in a brown hue inspired by Jupiter’s brown oval patterns.

A key point of focus is the body thickness. By making the body a few millimetres thicker than a standard SG, it produces a sound with a wider dynamic range.

Compared to conventional SGs, the stability when distorted is likely a characteristic derived from this body thickness.

Furthermore, the neck, crafted with a 1967 Flying V profile, features a nut width of 40.5mm—a slim yet substantial type. The smooth finish at the joint is meticulous, ensuring no strain even in the higher frets.

The tone is responsive, with the characteristic mid-to-high frequencies of mahogany containing delicious harmonics.

I believe it can cover everything from sweet clean and crunch tones suitable for blues and R&B, right through to technical music in the style of Zappa.

Precisely because it is so simple, how you use it is entirely up to you; I think it would look cool even if you strummed it punk-style and covered it in stickers!
