1996 Peavey EVH Wolfgang Quilt Top – Trans Purple – First Year Production – Serial #91000587

Offered for sale is an exceptionally early and highly collectible USA-made Peavey EVH Wolfgang Quilt Top in the stunning and rarely seen Trans Purple finish.

Serial number 91000587 places this guitar among the earliest Wolfgang Quilt Tops produced during the inaugural year of production. Based on the serial number and available information, this is believed to be one of the first ten quilt-top Wolfgangs built and one of the earliest examples to surface on the market.

The combination of an incredibly deep Trans Purple finish, heavily figured quilt maple top and spectacular birdseye maple neck makes this one of the most visually striking early Wolfgangs you are likely to find.

Like many players and collectors, I believe the first-year "Pat Pending" Wolfgangs represent the pinnacle of the Peavey EVH era, renowned for their exceptional neck carve, resonance, tone and overall build quality.

Condition

This guitar presents exceptionally well and has spent the last five years stored in its case in a humidity-controlled environment.

Overall condition is excellent for a nearly 30-year-old instrument. There is one very small finish blemish near the tone control along with light surface swirl marks from normal handling. The frets show only minor wear with slight grooving visible in the lower fret positions.

The guitar has not been regularly played during the past five years and may benefit from a professional setup to suit the new owner's preferred string gauge and tuning.

Why This Guitar?

Finding an early Peavey Wolfgang is not difficult.

Finding a first-year Pat Pending Quilt Top with:

  • An ultra-low serial number
  • Deep Trans Purple finish
  • Exceptional quilt figuring
  • Monster birdseye neck
  • Original case
  • Excellent condition

is a completely different proposition.

This is a genuine collector-grade example and one of the earliest quilt-top Wolfgangs known to have been offered publicly. Whether it ends up in a collection, studio or on stage is entirely up to its next custodian.

Included is the original Peavey hardshell case and tremolo arm.
