The 1949 Zephyr Deluxe Regent is an elegant, high-end instrument from the Epiphone's "Golden Age" of guitar production. Long before their (1957) acquisition by Gibson, Epiphone was a fierce rival competing to build the world's finest archtop guitars.
A "flagship" instrument, the Zephyr Deluxe Regent (Zephyr = electric, Deluxe = ornate, Regent = cutaway) embodied the meticulous build quality that made Epiphone a household name among jazz guitarists. It featured a smooth curve, 17 3/8" wide Venetian-style cutaway body, carved spruce top, figured curly maple back & sides, Epiphone’s "Tone Spectrum" single-coil pickup, a maple neck with a walnut center strip, rosewood fingerboard, triangle block fingoard inlays, "Tree of Life" headstock inlay, floating rosewood bridge, Epiphone-specific tuners, round aluminum volume & tone surrounds and "Frequensator" tailpiece.
Serial #85103 is one of the very first Zephyr Deluxe guitars built by Epiphone in 1949. It contains ALL of the original features listed above. It's overal condition is Very Good. It looks to have had a neck reset and, consistent with its age, there is some visible finish crazing. The neck is straight and guitar plays very well. Best of all, it has a rich "voice".
Comes with its original case which is in good structural and cosmetic condition.
With its superior craftsmanship, great sound and vintage vibe, this Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent represents an opportunity to own / play / disply / preserve a piece of American guitar-making history.
