FM Essential: A Plug-and-Play FM Synthesizer

FM Essential is a virtual synthesizer for iPhone and iPad that lets you play beautiful FM sounds and modify them to your liking. By connecting an MX BK/BU series synthesizer to an iOS device, you can unlock all the features and sounds of the FM Essential app. Furthermore, thanks to the Class Compliant Audio/MIDI interface, a single cable is all you need to transmit sound and control FM Essential from your MX BK/BU.

An intuitive playing mode for constant inspiration

The MOTIF's Performance mode has always been the source of inspiration: the MX is no exception. You can easily combine two Voices, either on either side of the keyboard (Split) or layered (Layer), each with its own intelligent arpeggiator, and an additional section is dedicated to rhythms. All 128 MX Performances, programmed by Yamaha's top sound designers, are editable.

128-note polyphony and 16 simultaneous parts

Each Performance doesn't just contain three sounds as described above: it contains the settings for 16 different parts. This allows you to easily select any of the 16 parts without any interruption in the sound. With 128-note polyphony, even the most complex sequences from your DAW will play smoothly. The MX synthesizers are not only excellent sound generators for live performance but also for playing tracks from DAWs.

USB Audio and MIDI Interface

MX synthesizers do more than just control software and virtual instruments; they are true audio interfaces. Simply connect a USB cable to your computer and listen to its sounds through the MX's headphone output or a pair of monitor or PA speakers. The MX's audio converters were designed for professional music applications, so the quality of everything coming out of your computer, including games, will be improved when using the MX's output. The USB interface is bidirectional, so you can record the MX's internal sounds directly to your computer without ever reverting to the analog domain, ensuring the best possible sound quality.

Dedicated Controls for Virtual Instruments and Audio Sequencers

The MX series features robust knobs and rotary controls for managing internal sounds, sequencer parameters, and VST instruments. The streamlined user interface is combined with a template editor on your computer, allowing you to fine-tune the MX to best suit your virtual instruments. A number of templates are also available for direct control of leading software. When using an MX with Cubase, the "AI knob" control is available, enabling you to adjust every sequencer parameter simply by hovering your mouse over it: complete Cubase control has never been faster.

A Comprehensive Suite of Music Production Software

The MX series is the only hardware synthesizer in its price range to come bundled with a complete suite of music production software tools. The included Steinberg Cubase AI software features 48 audio tracks and 64 MIDI tracks, notation, and built-in VST effects, so you can create complete productions with just the MX and AI. Remote template editors are also available for configuring VST controls. Finally, Yamaha has worked with third-party developers to ensure that fully functional, cross-platform editors will be available at launch.

Cubasis LE

In addition to Cubase AI, the Cubasis LE app for iPad is included with the MX BK/BU series synthesizers. By connecting a synthesizer from this series to an iPad, you can unlock all the features of the Cubasis LE app. Thanks to the bidirectional USB Audio/MIDI Class Compliant interface, music production with Cubasis LE is a breeze.
