Product Overview

The Custom Shop D-18 is built around a solid Adirondack spruce top finished in a warm Aging Toner gloss, paired with genuine mahogany back and sides in a rich Dark Mahogany gloss finish. Faux tortoise binding, an Old Style 18 multi-stripe rosette, and matching faux tortoise pickguard and heelcap give it a classic aesthetic that nods to Martin's storied heritage. This Martin dreadnought acoustic guitar is crafted to exacting Custom Shop standards without requiring a custom design session—giving Idaho Falls guitar players direct access to something truly special.

The GE Modified Low Oval neck with High-Performance Taper joins the body at the 14th fret via a traditional dovetail neck joint, offering a comfortable, familiar feel with excellent upper-fret access. The ebony fingerboard features a 16" radius and Old Style 18 abalone inlays, providing a smooth, fast playing surface suited to both rhythm and lead work. At 1 3/4" at the nut, the fingerboard width suits fingerpickers and flatpickers alike.

Hardware is thoughtfully appointed throughout—nickel open-gear tuners with butterbean knobs offer smooth, reliable tuning stability, while the ebony bridge with GE Modern Belly drop-in bone saddle ensures precise intonation and excellent string-to-top energy transfer. With no electronics, this guitar is built purely for acoustic performance, making it an ideal choice for players seeking the best acoustic guitar for fingerpicking, flatpicking, and live performance.

Key Features

Adirondack Spruce Top Adirondack spruce is prized for its stiffness-to-weight ratio, producing a top that responds quickly and opens up over time for increasingly rich, complex tone. The Aging Toner finish enhances the vintage aesthetic while allowing the top to breathe and resonate freely.

Genuine Mahogany Back & Sides Genuine mahogany delivers the warm, focused midrange and clear low-end definition that defines the classic dreadnought sound. Paired with the Adirondack top, this combination produces the punchy, balanced response that Martin's Style 18 guitars have been known for throughout their history.

GE Scalloped Hand-Shaped Forward-Shifted Bracing Golden Era scalloped bracing, forward-shifted and hand-shaped from Adirondack spruce, gives this guitar exceptional dynamic range and vintage-inspired resonance. This bracing pattern promotes a lively, responsive feel across all playing dynamics.

Ebony Bridge & Fingerboard Ebony is one of the hardest and most stable tonewoods available, contributing to crisp attack, excellent sustain, and long-term durability. The ebony bridge and fingerboard work together to enhance note clarity and articulation.

Traditional Dovetail Neck Joint The dovetail neck joint is a hallmark of traditional Martin construction, promoting maximum acoustic coupling between neck and body for improved sustain and overall resonance compared to bolt-on alternatives.
