There are guitars that look the part, and then there are guitars that feel alive the second you hit the first chord. This 2001 PRS Custom 22 Tremolo 10-Top in Amber is firmly in the second category. It’s elegant, refined, and unmistakably built to a higher standard.

Crafted by PRS Guitars, the Custom 22 has long been a cornerstone of their lineup, blending vintage warmth with modern precision. This 2001 example showcases a stunning 10-Top maple cap finished in a rich Amber that highlights the flame with depth and movement. Under stage lights or natural light, the figuring shifts and dances, giving the guitar a three-dimensional presence that photos never quite capture.

The mahogany body adds warmth and sustain, while the set mahogany neck delivers that smooth, resonant connection PRS is known for. The Wide Thin carve feels fast and comfortable, making extended sessions effortless whether you’re tracking leads or locking into tight rhythm work. The rosewood fingerboard is smooth and inviting, accented by classic PRS bird inlays that complete the upscale aesthetic.

Sonically, the Custom 22 is all about balance and articulation. The humbuckers deliver a clear, harmonically rich voice with excellent note separation. The bridge position cuts with authority without becoming harsh, ideal for soaring leads and punchy rock tones. The neck pickup is round and expressive, perfect for warm cleans or singing, vocal-like solos. Add in the 5-way rotary switching and you unlock a range of usable tones, including convincing single-coil textures that expand its versatility far beyond a typical dual-humbucker setup.

The PRS tremolo system is smooth, stable, and musical. It responds beautifully to subtle shimmers and more expressive bends alike, returning to pitch reliably and adding another layer of expression without sacrificing tuning integrity.

This guitar is in excellent condition overall. The finish presents beautifully with only light signs of careful use. There is some minor fret wear in the cowboy chord area, consistent with honest play, but nothing that affects performance. It plays cleanly up and down the neck, with plenty of life left in the frets and a comfortable, dialed-in setup.

Included is the original PRS hardcase, complete with the keys and the original trem arm.

If you’re looking for a turn-of-the-millennium PRS with premium woods, versatile tones, and timeless looks, this 2001 Custom 22 Tremolo 10-Top delivers the full experience. It’s a player’s instrument wrapped in a showpiece top, refined, reliable, and ready for its next stage.
