Martin 00-12-28 Modern Deluxe (12-Fret) – Overview

The Martin 00-12-28 Modern Deluxe (12-Fret) blends the rich, vintage character of a classic 12-fret rosewood Martin with a series of forward-thinking upgrades designed to enhance tone, responsiveness, and playability. Built in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, this premium Martin model pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with East Indian rosewood back and sides, producing a warm, balanced voice with remarkable depth and clarity.

Part of Martin’s Modern Deluxe Series, this guitar incorporates advanced design features that elevate the traditional 12-fret small-body platform. A VTS-treated Sitka spruce top recreates the resonance and responsiveness of a naturally aged instrument, while forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing allows the soundboard to move more freely for increased sensitivity, dynamic range, and tonal complexity.

Tone & Performance

The 00-12-28 Modern Deluxe delivers the warm, open character that makes 12-fret Martins so distinctive. With the bridge positioned closer to the center of the soundboard, the guitar produces deeper bass response, enhanced sustain, and a beautifully rounded tonal balance.

Players will notice excellent note separation and a highly responsive feel that rewards a light touch. The instrument excels in fingerstyle playing, folk accompaniment, and recording situations where clarity and nuance are essential. The torrefied spruce top and responsive bracing allow the guitar to feel lively and expressive from the first note.

Construction & Modern Deluxe Features

Martin’s traditional dovetail neck joint and solid wood construction preserve the resonance and tonal depth expected from a handcrafted American-built acoustic guitar. The Modern Deluxe platform introduces several premium upgrades, including a titanium truss rod for reduced neck weight and improved responsiveness, along with a liquidmetal bridge pin system designed to maximize energy transfer from the strings to the soundboard.

The comfortable Vintage Deluxe neck profile with High-Performance Taper and 1 13/16" nut width provides modern playability while maintaining the familiar feel many Martin players prefer. An ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, and premium gold Waverly tuning machines complete the instrument with both performance and visual elegance.
