Up for a sale is a rare but sought after ADL 1500 that has been upgraded by the great Jim Williams. Jim completely rewired the compressor to make is sound utterly transparent. This is the most transparent compressor I have ever heard, perfect for mastering, vocals, or instruments you don't want to have audible compression artifacts. Cost of the upgrade was $800 + $150 in shipping costs.
From Jim: " I use JJ 12BH7 output tubes and JJ EC803 preamp tubes. Power supply caps are enlarged from 68 to 390 uf. Polyprop film bypass caps are added. Audio path coupling caps are Vishay HQ polypropylene film. Values are enlarged to extend the low end to below 10 hz. The output stage is redesigned to output 23 ma. I use wirewound resistors for smaller values and Dale CMF60 for the rest. The output cap is enlarged from 10 to 47 uf to get that low end. It is bypassed by a Vishay polyprop film cap for air. Solder is Kester 48, 3% silver content. Transformers are Jensen JT-11P for the inputs and JT-10K61-1M for the outputs. These are expensive parts but the best made. Cost for the mods, tubes, transformers, etc is $800."
The ADL 1500 is an LA2A-style stereo opto compressor that is great in it's own right. Adding the Jim Williams mod makes it sound just amazing.
I've described this as mint due to the complete rewiring and brand new components. There is some slight rack rash that you can see in the photos. There are also spots on the back were the old transformers where removed.
