Early 1960s Teisco Bass, BS-101 model. Fully working, great sounding and easy playing. Shows lots of wear ("patina") but no damage. I got this from a Japanese seller (when shipping to US was much lower than now) It was dirty so I gave it a good cleaning all around. The pictures show the wear to finishes due to very long life and normal use. The sunburst and lacquer is still quite good. I decided to do no restorations so it is completely original. The exception, when testing before listing it was obvious that the V and T controls were badly worn - scratchy, gappy and noisy. I installed new V and T pots and it all works like new - quiet and clean. (the last picture shows the original pots before I changed them) Nice clean, warm toned gold foil pickup (one of the first) Neck is straight (-ish) Truss rod works. Frets show very small dents in first 3 frets so not an issue. Fretboard and binding accents are very good. The tailpiece cover was missing. Bridge adjusts easily for height and intonation.
The bass is about 40" long and has a 25" scale like regular guitar. These are great basses for the guitar players. The early Teiscos were built to high woodworking standards and they used furniture grade, kiln-dried Mahogany wood. These are quite rare to find in the US and this one is not in need of servicing/repairing (like many vintage guitars are) Price is what I have in it + shipping - which is a much lower than the current examples for sale in Japan with BIG shipping costs.
Case is not included.
I set up my guitars to my own preferences - what seems standard. However, many players like different setups and should understand they may need to make minor bridge/tailpiece adjustments for string heights to suit their particular playing style. Other gauge of strings can effect intonation as well.
I describe and present images of the item to the best of my ability. Adjustments and minor repairs are made to my standard setup. Please review the images and ask questions you may have. Partial refunds are not offered in this guarantee.
