With the Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS Washed Cherry Sunburst, the Gibson Custom Shop presents what is probably the most authentic reissue of the legendary '59 Les Paul. As a result of accurate laser scans of original instruments of the era with detailed color values of the Sunburst-Finish and chemical analyses of the composition of individual plastic components, the 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS is far more than a mere tribute instrument, but is an exact copy of the original. Naturally, the Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS Washed Cherry Sunburst comes as a genuine Custom Shop instrument in the original Lifton hardshell Case and including a certificate of authenticity.
Authentic mahogany constructionNaturally, the original tonewood combination of Gibson Les Paul is used for the Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS Washed Cherry Sunburst. The solid mahogany body without weight relief is finished with a two-piece curly maple top and a classic Royalite binding and connected to the familiar strong '50s Rounded Medium C mahogany neck via a long neck heel (Long Neck Tenon). Authentic Hide Glue is used for all gluing to create the tried and tested resonant glue joints of the '59 Les Paul.
The two Gibson Custombucker pick ups are probably the most accurate replicas of the coveted 'Patent-Applied-For' humbuckers - or P.A.F. for short. The double coilers, known for their warm and full character, rely on historically correct Alnico III magnets and, like the original, are not waxed. The equally classic electrical layout, on the other hand, consists of CTS pots for Volume and Tone, paper-in-oil capacitors and a high-quality Switchcraft USA output socket.
Of course, the successful combination of a versatile and resonant Gibson ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic bridge and an aluminum stopbar should not be missing on an official '59 Les Paul. The six Kluson machine headswith historically accurate single-line housing and single-ring wings from the era are also true to the original. The plastic parts in the form of the M69 humbucker frames, the pickguard and the 'poker chip' are also made of cellulose acetate butyrate in keeping with the original.
