Rupert Neve Designs Portico II Master Buss Processor

The Portico II Master Buss Processor (MBP) is a sophisticated, versatile tool for dynamic range control, tone shaping, and stereo field manipulation on a 2-buss. Developed with Rupert Neve's high voltage, discrete, and class-A signal paths from the renowned 5088 Mixer, the MBP is an essential tool for mix engineers, mastering engineers, tracking engineers, and even FOH engineers.

Key Features:

  • Versatile Compressor Sections: Offers dual mono or stereo dynamics control with a variety of settings for ratio, threshold, attack, release, blend, side chain HPF, limit, and make-up gain.
  • Feed-Forward and Feed-Back Modes: Allows for both a modern transparent response and a smoother, vintage response.
  • Peak and RMS Modes: Provides flexibility in compression response, suitable for handling transient material and RMS-level signals.
  • Advanced Limiter: Features Adaptive Release Technology for dynamic response to transient and sluggish signals. Offers aggressive limiting while maintaining the character of the music.
  • Stereo Field Editor (SFE): Offers innovative M-S techniques with controls for width, depth, and bandpass filters, affecting the stereo image and perceived room ambience.
  • Silk & Texture Circuit: Allows fine-tuning of harmonic content in the output stage, offering two modes – Silk Red for enhancing highs and Silk Blue for lows.
  • High-Quality Build: Mastering-grade detented pots, input, and output transformers designed by Rupert Neve.

Technical Specifications:

  • Frequency Response: 5 Hz to 100 kHz +/- 0.5dB, -3dB at 120 kHz.
  • Maximum Output Level: +25 dBu over 20 Hz to 40 kHz.
  • Total Harmonic Distortion and Noise: Less than 0.003% at 1 kHz, +20 dBu.
  • Compressor Threshold: -30 dBu to +20 dBu, with ratio range from 1.1:1 to 40:1.
  • Power Consumption: 85 Watts Max.
  • Dimensions: 3.5” H x 19” W x 12” D.

Professional Reviews:

  • Garry Brown (FOH for Phish): Praises its indispensable role in mixing and mastering.
  • Adam Kagan (Tape Op): Highlights its diverse set of tools and world-class processing capabilities.
  • Brett Orrison (FOH for Jack White): Commends its unique compression capabilities and stereo field manipulation.
  • Michael Romanowski: Emphasizes its flexibility and efficiency in handling challenging songs.
