Vintage 1956 Harmony H-88 Stratotone Doublet w/ Original Case! Will Ray Owned, Guitar Player Magazine!

Up for sale is this vintage 1956 Harmony H-88 Stratotone Doublet electric guitar. This is a very cool and very playable example of a fairly rare Stratotone model. The coolness factor increases even more when it's revealed that this one spent over twenty years in the collection of Will Ray and was even featured in his column in the July 2002 issue of Guitar Player Magazine.

This instrument looks to be all original with the exception of the finish, a few missing tuner screws, the nut, and the input jack plate. The finish isn't the best job that we've ever seen but it's far from the worst, featuring a very old almost watermelon-burst color. Being an old refin, it shows all of the cool wear and absolutely looks the part. The pots are original and date to the 50th week or 1955 and both pickups are original and sound great. A piece of binding is missing off of the very end of the fretboard.

Our tech went over this one and sprayed out the electronics, polished the original brass frets, and installed a fresh set of strings. This guitar is well above-average on the playability scale when it comes to these old Stratotones. The neck shows only a slight amount of relief and the action is on the lower side of medium all the way up the neck. The original frets show wear and divoting, but still have life left in them. He noted that a few of the inlays are lifiting at the corners, but not enough to worry about at this time.

This one includes the original case which is in nice condition for its age. It does show wear and the case pocket lid has come detached, but all of the latches and hinges are present and work as they should and the original handle is intact as well.

A handwritten letter from Will Ray on his letterhead is included as documentation on this instrument. If you're a fan of Stratotones, a fan of Will Ray, or a fan of both, here's your chance to get a very cool instrument that's been pretty well-documented over the years.
