Up for sale is this vintage 1966 Hagstrom II electric guitar. This is one of the best playing Hagstrom instruments that we've ever had come through the shop. Personally, I'm not a fan of the small necks, but it's literally impossible to put this thing down...

This instrument is all original with the exception of the typically missing tremolo arm and the broken high-E saddle adjustment screw (only broken off on one side, pictured). The bright, original red finish shows fairly heavy wear, especially around the edges, including a scuffs, nicks, dings, and a few small areas of touch-up. There is a small pickguard crack coming off one of the screw holes (pictured). The finish on the back of the neck has checked heavily and can be felt while playing which is easy enough to smooth out if it bothers you but, with the way this thing plays, we wouldn't change a thing.

Our tech just went over this one and sprayed out the electronics and reglued the base to the neck pickup. The base plates come loose on these over the years and will short out the pickup, which was the case with this one when it came in. We are happy to report that it's working perfectly now. The only issue with the electronics is that the mute switch doesn't seem to do anything, all of the other switches work perfectly as intended. The neck is straight and the action is extremely low and fast. The original frets show wear and there is a decent amount of fret buzz with the current set up, so you may want to set the action a touch higher if you're heavy handed.

A modern Fender gig bag will be included and the instrument will be well-packed inside to ensure safe shipping. If you're in the market for a great playing vintage Hagstrom, this is certainly one that we would recommend and I can say that completely unbiased. It's not perfect (these never are), but it's a fine playing example of a cool 1960's model.
