Genuine Takamine OEM Part CTF-2N Pro Series Preamp with FET Circuitry

This listing is for ONE (1) NEW CTF-2N PreAmp unit.

Does not include any item used for reference in the description pictures.

The CTF-2N PreAmp is covered by Takamine Electronics One-Year Limited Warranty and will be sent with warranty registration card.

This warranty is applicable only to the original purchaser, it is non-transferable.

The CTF-2N can be used with Takamine Pro Series guitars with STRAIGHT or SPLIT Pickup Saddles.

The CTF-2N is NOT appropriate for Takamine G Series instruments.

This preamp is designed for use in Takamine brand guitars only!

The PreAmp DOES NOT come with a mounting chassis.

The CTF-2N will easily replace the following Takamine Pro Series Preamps:

Accuracoustic, Graph Ex, Takamine Parametric Equalizer, CT-4B II, CTP-1, CTP-2, CTP-3, CT4-DX, CTF-2N, N4B.

The CTF-2N FET circuit preamp was inspired by Takamine’s famous 3 slider “Brownie” preamp.

The CTF-2N is voiced in similar warm, natural fashion as the original “Brownie” but with an easy to read chromatic tuner and straight forward EQ controls that make it easy to dial in the perfect tone.

The CTF-2N is powered by a single 9 volt battery.

"Brownie" is the affectionate nickname guitarists worldwide gave long ago to the very first series of FET (field effect transistor) preamps designed by Takamine engineers to complement their revolutionary Palathetic bridge-mounted pickup.

It was the warm and natural saturation effect of the FET preamp, resembling that of a vacuum tube that first attracted the support of American artists such as Ry Cooder, David Lindley, the Eagles, James Taylor, Jackson Brown, William Sutherland, Bruce Springsteen and many others.

The CTF-2N preamp retains the sonority of the original “brownie” but updated with new features such as a chromatic tuner.

Time is taken to check new product when it arrives from Takamine; electronic components pass through another more thorough audio and electronics test before being packaged and shipped.

The vintage preamps and used components sold by AddictedToToneInc pass through this same testing process.

Non electronic parts like Tuners, Nuts, Saddles are carefully inspected and tested; any part that requires assembly is assembled.

Many sellers do not possess a working knowledge of the Takamine equipment they are selling and simply send merchandise without examining the item being sold.

As a guitarist, artist and former touring musician I understand how important this equipment is to the individual purchasing it; most of my customers are casual players but for some of my clients the part being purchased is needed for work and making a livelihood - an extended downtime can make for some potentially hungry days!

My endeavors are not approached as a mere "numbers game" or how many boxes of product I can move, for me it is much more personal, most of my clients work very hard for their money; I appreciate and respect the fact they have chosen me to do business with.

 I package items VERY well and ship very promptly!

If you are having your item delivered to a temporary living address: Hotel, Motel, Day Suite etc. remember to notify the front desk receiving personnel of the expected delivery.

Make sure the name listed on the package is also attached to the establishments guest registry. If the recipients name on the package does not match a name in the guest registry there is no way for the establishment to know who the delivery is meant for.

Addicted To Tone Inc will only ship to an REVERB approved address.

Make sure the address you have given REVERB as your shipment destination is correct and contains no mistakes.

Changes to a shipping address or the recipients name cannot be made after an item has been purchased.

Providing the proper shipping information is the responsibility of the purchaser.

I ship very quickly, after the package has been processed changes to the shipment cannot be made.

AddictedToToneInc ships very quickly, usually the same day an order was placed excluding weekends, USPS holidays, inclement weather events that adversely affect road conditions and orders received after 3:00pm EST.

It was this initial acceptance by so many high profile artists that effectively put Takamine on the map as a

world-class acoustic guitar brand to be reckoned with. And so it remains to this day.

For THE 60TH anniversary, we designed the CTF-2N FET pre-amp which retains the taste of the original “Brownie”

but updated with new features such as a notch filter and chromatic tuner.

As Takamine preamps evolved over the years to incorporate updated technologies and address evolving consumer

demands with products such as the AD-1 digital preamp, the CTP preamp series with battery–powered vacuum tube

and the more recent and very popular CT4DX with an 18 volt high-voltage driven dual PU capability, there have

remained many ongoing requests for the reproduction of the original, simple “Brownie” preamp.

Thus the new CTF-2N.

We hesitated to tackle reproduction of the “Brownie” in spite of the many demands because of certain features

that could not be accepted in contemporary live performance, recording and playback environments.

We began by removing the parts of the original "Brownie" one-by-one with a soldering iron and disassembling

them to read the circuit pattern and develop a test board. We then examined the sound characteristics of several

currently available FET devices.

We discovered that the high EQ control of the original "Brownie" is a passive circuit similar to the tone

control of an electric guitar and the treble was cut by half at the center zero position. Also, when dropping

the treble down fully, it felt as if the total volume decreased.

Next, when focusing on the low EQ, it felt that the range of change was reduced compared to that of the high EQ

so the adjustment to widen the cut-boost level and bring it to the same feeling as the high EQ.

Also, some inconsistent peak frequencies at certain fret positions (such as G string 3rd fret) were adjusted accordingly

to achieve a noticeably smoother sound and feel by moving up the peak frequency 5Hz

For professional musicians on stage who rely on “front of house” P.A. mix for EQ correction, a 2-band

(bass and treble) EQ is sufficient, but for the players who need to suppress annoying feedback with on-board controls,

we added a very effective notch filter function to cut such troublesome frequencies.

The notch filter installed in the CT4-DX and later Takamine onboard pre-amps could cut a chosen target frequency between

0Hz to 5KHz. It can also be used as a mid-cut EQ, and control the deepness of the cut by switching the selection of -6dB/-12dB.

The new CTF-2N also features an easy to read chromatic tuner.

Another adjustment made to accommodate contemporary equipment involved a decrease of 6db in the master

volume to avoid possible unwanted distortion.

As good as the original “Brownie” these small changes made noticeable improvements without changing

the fundamental tonal essence of the legendary preamp.
