1930s Rare Ribbon Mic - Bruno Laboratories RV3 + XLR upgrade
This is a super rare ribbon microphone! Never seen or heard of these. It works and sounds pretty wonderful, and has that old ribbon mic warmth, especially on vocals. It‘s pretty clean sounding, very little hiss for a mic of this type and age. Everything appears original (ribbon, transformer, magnets, etc), I believe i was the first person to open it up, except for the cable, which I’ve upgraded to a modern male xlr for ease of use. (the rubber on the original cable was rotting and used an older amphenol connector)
It is from the early 1930s and was made by Bruno Laboratories in NYC. Original ribbon is in great condition (see photo), and there is aging on the black paint and tan grille cloth as youd expect on a 90 something year old mic. I’ve left these alone for the sake of preservation but you could repaint and replace the cloth and make it shiny new looking.
