Subway guitars in Berkeley California is here to offer up a 2006 Fender Marcus Miller jazz bass that has been tastefully modified for your listening pleasure.
Legendary bay area luthier Gary Brawer was enlisted to replace the original pickguard which was three piece black with a nice two-piece tortoise shell pick guard. He also added a rear opening battery compartment for easy access. Most importantly, he replaced the original fender preamp with a bartolini two band TCT preamp with passive tone control. (The same mod as Marcus Miller did)
The controls are volume, blend knob, treble boost or cut, Bass boost or cut, a mini switch for passive or active, and a rear knob which is a mid-range cut only in active mode, and a passive tone cut when the base is in passive mode. All of the work of course, is top notch like all of Gary's work.
The setup is excellent, with nice action for slapping, but no fret buzz. The neck is nice and straight, and all of the frets are in good shape and not worn.
The bass is an excellent condition with the exception of one errant screw hole on the lower horn that we can only speculate was possibly a failed experiment with a strap pin. Anyway, the small hole is shown in the pictures
This is a rare chance to get a Marcus Miller base modified like the man himself did it. The original Fender preamp is harsh and best for rock or heavy metal players.
Marcus Miller's combination of soulful groove and astounding technical ability has made him one of the jazz world's preeminent virtuoso bassists. Fender's stylish Marcus Miller Jazz Bass® guitar is soulful and astounding, too. It has an ash body, distinctive pickguard/control plate and one piece C-shaped maple neck with a 7.25"-radius maple fingerboard featuring white binding, white pearl block inlays and a satin finish (gloss finish on the headstock, plus Miller's signature). Incredible tone comes from dual vintage-style Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, and the two-band active EQ has an active/passive mini-toggle switch. Other features include chrome neck pickup cover, knurled chrome-dome knobs on the volume controls and black Jazz Bass knobs on the tone controls, a Badass® Bass II™ bridge and three-bolt neck plate. Generic Deluxe gig bag included.
