The Universal Audio SC-1 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone for home and professional studios, made for vocals, acoustic guitar, strings and drums. It comes with UA's Hemisphere Mic Collection plug-in, which gives the SC-1 the sound of eight classic studio condensers. A linear circuit, 12 dB self-noise and 145 dB maximum SPL let the same mic handle a quiet vocal and a loud guitar cab.

Eight Studio Condensers in One Mic

Hemisphere uses the same modeling technology as UA's Sphere microphones. Once you register the SC-1 in the UA Connect app, the plug-in installs as a native version for your DAW and a UAD-2 version for Apollo interfaces, so you can record through a model in real time. Its filter, proximity and axis controls change the tone and the virtual mic position after tracking, which helps with sibilant vocals or a harsh guitar amp.

Setup

The SC-1 is a side-address mic with a fixed cardioid pattern, and the UA badge marks the front. It needs 48 V phantom power from your interface or preamp. The included mount threads onto a 5/8" mic stand, and the thread adapter fits 3/8" stands.
