1980 Greco Super Real EGF-1200 Sunburst, Dry Z PAFS, Brazilian Rosewood, Japan, MIJ, FujiGen

Presented here is a highly sought-after 1980 Greco Super Real EGF-1200, produced during Greco’s legendary golden era. Finished in what Greco called “Sunburst Lady”, this example features a subtly figured maple top and lacquer finish. It is also one of the few examples we've seen featuring a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard (not all EGF-1200s featured these!), and, of course, a matched set of stock, Maxon “Dry Z” PAF-style humbuckers, delivering the rich, woody warmth and clarity that have made these pickups somewhat of a legend in their own right.

Included with the guitar are the originally supplied Greco Super Real Lifton-style brown fitted hardcase, along with the original warranty card and booklets.

Highly regarded by collectors and players alike, the EGF-1200 represents the pinnacle of Greco’s Super Real production and was built at the renowned FujiGen factory. Originally priced at ¥120,000, this model occupied the top of Greco’s lineup and is widely regarded as one of the finest LP–style instruments ever produced outside of Gibson’s Kalamazoo era.

This guitar is notable for its remarkably faithful adherence to late-’50s Les Paul specifications. The lacquer finish enhances both visual depth and tactile response, while the hand-scraped binding—evocative of original ’50s instruments—offers superior feel and authenticity. The neck features a classic late-’50s carve, substantial yet exceptionally playable.

Condition-wise, our example is in great shape, fully functional and free from any breaks or repairs.

Cosmetically, there are marks indicative of light, careful play-wear, but overall the guitar presents in clean condition, especially given its vintage. There are some light surface marks and a degree of clouding to the lacquer finish, as pictured, but these are all to be expected of a 46+ year-old instrument!

The neck and fingerboard present cleanly, with some finish loss at the tip of the headstock and some wear to the original small frets, although plenty of life remains. Most of the fret wear is concentrated towards the lower end of the fingerboard around the G-string, but this does not affect playability.

All electronics are original and fully functional. Sonically, the “Dry Z” humbuckers produce the open, woody and harmonically rich tones for which they are renowned, widely regarded as among the finest PAF-style pickups ever made. Dynamic, responsive and deeply musical, this EGF-1200 easily rivals vintage Gibsons costing many times more! We suspect the cover of the bridge pickup may have been removed at some point but it is now back in place.

The guitar remains largely original, with only a suspected replacement pickguard and a few screws noted. Importantly, all the key components remain intact.
