1982A Angled 4×12 Cabinet – 1978

A superb 1978 Marshall 1982A angled 4×12 speaker cabinet, loaded with four period Celestion G12H T1281 Blackback speakers, all featuring the highly desirable 444 bass cones and matching GL7 date codes.

The 1982 series was Marshall's heavy-duty cabinet range, designed to handle greater power than the standard 1960-series cabinets. Fitted with four 30-watt G12H speakers, the 1982A delivers a substantial 120-watt power handling capacity, together with the enormous punch and authority that made these cabinets a favourite among players looking for a bigger, more powerful Marshall sound.

This example dates from 1978 and is presented in very good overall condition, retaining the classic appearance and character of a late-'70s Marshall 4×12.

Original Celestion G12H T1281 Blackbacks

The real attraction here is the set of Celestion G12H T1281 Blackback speakers, all carrying matching GL7 date codes.

The T1281 is one of the most desirable G12H variants, featuring the heavier H-magnet assembly and a 55Hz bass resonance, giving it a distinctly different character from the more familiar 75Hz G12M Greenback.

All four speakers are fitted with 444 bass cones, a specification particularly associated with the deeper, fuller response of vintage Celestion bass-cone speakers.

Compared with the lighter G12M, the G12H offers greater headroom, a firmer bottom end and a more immediate, authoritative attack. The 444 cones add further depth and weight, making these speakers particularly well suited to high-powered Marshall amplifiers.

Tonally, the result is enormous: deep, controlled lows, powerful mids and a clear, aggressive top end, with the unmistakable harmonic complexity and musical compression of vintage Celestions when pushed.

Whether paired with a JMP Super Lead, Super Bass or Master Model, this is a cabinet capable of delivering a seriously impressive classic Marshall sound.

Classic 1982A Construction

The 1982A features Marshall's traditional angled-front, closed-back 4×12 design, providing excellent projection while retaining the substantial low-end response associated with a full-sized Marshall cabinet.

The heavier-duty speaker configuration gives the 1982 series its distinctive character, making it particularly appealing to players who want the sound of vintage Celestions with greater power handling than a conventional 100-watt G12M-loaded cabinet.

Condition

This 1978 example is in very good cosmetic condition for its age, showing the expected signs of careful use accumulated over nearly five decades.

The cabinet presents extremely well overall and retains the unmistakable appearance of a late-'70s Marshall 4×12.

The matching set of G12H T1281 Blackbacks with 444 cones is a particularly desirable feature and a major part of the appeal of this cabinet.
