FUJIGEN is a long-established manufacturer that has been a leading force in Japan’s musical instrument industry for many years.

While the company is often associated with Fender-style guitars, it also offers a semi-acoustic series that has been released since 1996 and has long been beloved by fans.

That series is the Masterfield MSA.

Compared to other series, this model involves more hand-crafted processes, and the box-shaped body—assembled by skilled craftsmen—delivers the high-quality sound unique to Japanese-made instruments and showcases FUJIGEN’s precision engineering.

Compared to conventional semi-acoustic guitars, its compact body design minimizes the adjustment period for players transitioning from solid-body guitars, and the 15-inch “Original Fitting” body boasts exceptional playability.

The proprietary “Circle Fretting System” sets the frets in an arc, ensuring that each string intersects each fret at a right angle and minimizing the contact surface. This produces a clear sound with quick attack and rich sustain.

It’s a true all-rounder—perfect for both guitar-vocal chord playing and lead work! Thanks to its compact body, it’s resistant to feedback and keeps up reliably even when driven with high-gain distortion.

It maintains tuning and delivers clear chords even when playing chords in the higher positions. It adapts not only to jazz and blues but also to modern, fast-paced pop sounds and complex chord progressions, making it a versatile instrument across a wide range of genres.

Furthermore, the “Scooped Rim & Inner Block”—crafted from hollowed-out solid mahogany—transmits string vibrations without loss to every corner of the body, delivering a rich, resonant tone.

It achieves a perfect balance between full-bodied nuance and clear resolution.

Furthermore, the “Expert Fret Edge”—hand-finished by skilled craftsmen—contributes to smooth and effortless fingering.

Equipped with two Fujigen original “FGN Alnico 3” pickups, it delivers a fat, punchy sound.

It fully unleashes its potential, ranging from sweet jazz tones to crunchy blues and clear, well-defined drive sounds.

A legendary Japanese-made instrument that offers excellent value for money along with the exceptional sound and playability unique to FGN. Highly recommended.
