ESP E-II M-I / M-1, the Japanese-made single-pickup version, it is a very high-end, stripped-down metal/shred guitar. ESP currently lists the E-II M-I NT as being built at its Tokyo factory.

- Frets: 24 extra-jumbo stainless-steel
- Neck shape: Thin U

- Tuners: Gotoh locking
- Pickup: One EMG 81 active humbucker in the bridge
- Controls: Just one volume knob
- Nut: Bone
- Finish: Black Satin on the current model

How it sounds
The philosophy is basically "nothing unnecessary between you and the amp." The single EMG 81 gives it a very tight, aggressive bridge sound with strong upper-mid presence and excellent note definition. It's particularly suited to:
- Heavy metal
- Thrash
- Hard rock
- Drop-tuned rhythm
- Fast alternate picking
- Lead/shred playing
The neck-through construction and ebony board give it a very smooth, fast-playing feel, while the 24 stainless frets are excellent for bending and high-register playing.
What's unusual is the one-pickup/one-volume layout. There is no neck pickup, tone control, or pickup selector. That makes it extremely simple: plug it in, set the volume, and play. ESP specifically describes it as a guitar designed around speed and putting as little as possible between the player and the tone.
Is it a "real ESP" or an LTD?
The E-II is an ESP-branded Japanese guitar, not an LTD. ESP says the E-II series replaced the old ESP Standard designation and is manufactured in Japan to a very high standard, below the fully handcrafted ESP Custom Shop instruments in the company's lineup.
