Up for sale is a stunning, investment-grade 1965 Gibson ES-335 finished in classic Cherry and equipped with a desirable factory Bigsby tailpiece. Hailing from the mid-60s transition era, this semi-hollowbody masterpiece embodies the absolute peak of Kalamazoo craftsmanship, offering incredible resonant depth and iconic vintage mojo.
Tone & Sonic Character
Mid-60s ES-335s are legendary for their peerless tonal versatility, and this one is a truly exceptional specimen. Powered by its original pickups, it delivers a deeply rich, woody acoustic resonance unplugged that translates seamlessly through an amplifier. The neck pickup sings with a warm, piano-like clarity, smooth lows, and creamy sustain that handles everything from lush jazz chords to howling blues leads. Switch to the bridge position, and you get an articulate, biting chime with a woody midrange punch that cuts through any mix. Whether you're chasing pristine hollowbody warmth or cranked-tube harmonic overdrive, this guitar responds to your pick attack with incredible dynamic sensitivity and touch.
Playability & Feel
This ES-335 is an absolute dream in the hands. The neck profile offers that comfortable, fast mid-60s feel that fills the palm just right without ever feeling cumbersome. Up and down the board, the action is low, effortless, and buzz-free. While there is some very light play wear in the lower frets, it has zero impact on playability or intonation, allowing for smooth bends and lightning-fast runs. It is structurally solid, exceptionally stable, and a truly inspiring, great-playing machine.
Condition & Originality
- Originality: Mostly original. The original pickguard is missing. The pickups are original, though close inspection reveals that the solder joints securing the pickup covers appear a bit disturbed, suggesting the covers were off at some point in the past (they are currently back on).
- Cosmetic Condition: Overall in very nice shape. It displays honest, light play wear appropriate for its age, including a few minor dings and chips here and there that only add to its authentic vintage character.
