A banjo built to carry a musician's individual voice should feel like more than a collection of traditional appointments, and the Deering Scott Avett "Truth" Signature Banjo turns Scott Avett's musical and visual ideas into a deeply personal instrument. Created in collaboration with the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist, the model reflects the expressive role the banjo plays in his work while retaining the craftsmanship associated with Deering's American-made resonator banjos. Most distinctive is Avett's own "Truth" artwork, translated into custom peghead and fingerboard inlays that give the instrument an identity unlike anything else in the Deering lineup.

Its voice departs from the conventional metal-tone-ring bluegrass formula through Deering's Hartford grenadillo tone ring. The dense hardwood ring is intended to produce a warm, rich response while retaining the clarity and definition necessary for a resonator banjo to speak distinctly within an ensemble. That balance makes the Truth banjo especially intriguing for players whose music extends beyond traditional bluegrass: folk, Americana, roots music, singer-songwriter arrangements, melodic playing, and more atmospheric applications can all benefit from a banjo voice with warmth and depth as well as articulation.

The walnut neck and walnut-finished resonator reinforce the instrument's earthy visual and tonal character. A slender D-shaped neck offers a comfortable foundation for both chordal and melodic playing, while an A-grade ebony fingerboard provides a smooth, durable playing surface beneath the custom Truth inlays. The satin finish keeps the presentation understated and organic, allowing the natural character of the wood and Avett's artwork to take center stage rather than relying on elaborate ornamentation for its identity.

Throughout the rest of the instrument, Deering pairs that artistic direction with a professional resonator-banjo foundation: a three-ply violin-grade maple rim, one-piece cast zinc flange, notched brass tension hoop, Deering Smile bridge, True Tone tailpiece, and planetary tuning machines. The result is a signature model whose defining features serve the same purpose as Avett's music and artwork, combining traditional materials and forms with a distinctly personal point of view.
