ESP is one of Japan’s leading musical instrument brands.
The item we’ve just received is the HORIZON-II, part of the HORIZON series—a flagship model that has long been a staple of the lineup.
The powerful grain of the ash used for the top complements the warm amber color, giving this instrument a luxurious look.
It features a U-shaped neck and is constructed using a through-neck design.
The thinly profiled neck shape offers a smooth playing experience—it’s no wonder it has been beloved by so many technical players—and remains comfortable even during extended playing sessions.
The wood configuration features an ash top, mahogany back, a three-piece hard maple neck, and an ebony fingerboard.
The low-to-midrange delivers a solid, full-bodied sound with excellent cohesion, while the open, airy high end creates a well-balanced tone.
The pickup configuration features a combination of the Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro and TB-4 JB pickups.
The clear division of roles and straightforward setup make it easy to handle. For clean tones, the front pickup delivers a bright, rich tone with excellent definition, while the rear pickup offers a thick, full-bodied midrange—allowing for more nuanced sound shaping via the volume and tone controls.
When driven, the sound gains even more depth; it pairs well with high-gain tones and delivers a powerful sound with excellent responsiveness to fast phrases.
Furthermore, the tone knob features a push/pull coil-tap function, allowing you to shift the tone toward a brighter, more sparkling sound.
In terms of condition, there are scratches and dents from age and use, as well as tarnish, rust, and peeling plating on various parts. There are also some cracks and chips in the finish, along with touch-up marks; however, the frets have plenty of life left, and the truss rod is functioning well, making this a ready-to-play instrument that you can continue to enjoy.
This is a high-quality instrument that lets you enjoy the exceptional quality, playability, and great sound that ESP is known for.
