Rare 1987/1988 Ibanez RG440P "Power" – Made in Japan – All Original, Original Edge w/ Arm, Super 8 & Vintage Pickups
Up for sale is a standout piece of late-80s Ibanez history: an all-original, rare Ibanez RG440P (Power Series) crafted at the legendary Fujigen factory in Japan. While the 540P had a longer production run, the 440P HSS configuration was only offered for a very brief period, making this a hard-to-find gem for collectors and Golden-Era Japanese Ibanez enthusiasts.
This guitar combines the sleek, ergonomic contours of the Basswood Power body with an ultra-versatile HSS setup. It features the classic Ibanez Super 8 single-coils in the neck and middle positions and an Ibanez Vintage humbucker in the bridge. The original push-push coil-split mechanism on the tone pot is still completely snappy and fully functional, giving you instant access to pristine single-coil bridge tones.
Key Highlights & Specs:
- Model: Ibanez RG440P (Power Series)
- Origin: Made in Japan (Fujigen)
- Body Material: Basswood
- Neck Profile: Thin C profile (42mm nut width, 19mm thickness at 1st fret, 21.5mm thickness at 12th fret) – comfortable, lighting-fast, and slightly narrower at the nut than the standard Wizard profile.
- Fingerboard: Rosewood
- Hardware: 100% all-original hardware in Excellent Condition Cosmo Chrome (tuners, control knobs, and bridge).
- Bridge: Original Ibanez Edge double-locking tremolo — includes the original whammy bar.
- Electronics: Original HSS setup (Super 8 / Super 8 / Vintage Humbucker) with snappy factory push-push coil split.
Condition:
- Frets: Outstanding condition with minimal fret wear. Plenty of height left for smooth bends and heavy playing.
- Hardware: Exceptional condition for its age. The notorious Cosmo Chrome plating has held up remarkably well without the heavy pitting or wear usually seen on these 30+ year old instruments.
- Body: Shows some nicks and dings across the finish consistent with age and honest use, but no structural issues whatsoever.
Plays like a dream, stays in rock-solid tune through heavy tremolo use, and delivers unmistakable late-80s Japanese craftsmanship.
I bought this new in the spring of 1988 and seriously, this thing looks really great! There is NO finish-cracking where the upper and lower horns meet the neck joint which, if you are looking at this, you know is not typical for models of this era. The hardware looks brand new. There are a few nicks and dings that could probably be addressed by a professional (drop fills with hard epoxy, etc.) NO buckle rash. Please refer to the pictures.
Will be packed with extreme care in a brand new Glarry ST Deluxe Electric Guitar Hard Shell Case and shipped fully insured.
I like to take the back plate off of my guitars, but I can reinstall it for you before shipping or include in the hardshell case.
