Welcome,
For players hands only!
We present a rare and early piece by Morris.
Part of our mini-archive of Morris guitars, this goat has the Mother Of Pearl vertical logo as seen on the earlier Morris pieces that were made by Sadao Yairi.
This one circa first half of the 1970's, hence has higher grade materials than the later more heavily built guitars.
The solid spruce top is a high grade piece with this being a 60,000 Yen guitar of the day, which in the mid to early 70's was fair wedge.
After the D-35 style we can see the three-piece back which seems to be Jacaranda (Brazilian Rosewood) and that could account for some of the complexity to the tone.
The lightness of build is the main factor allowing for an impressive, piano-like tone that is also sweetened with time and serious use, its balanced and complex, and a lovely sounding guitar!
The trade off to the lightness of build, naturally is some structural compromise over the 52 years of string tension.
So the neck angle is quite low, with the usual dip at the soundhole seen on most vintage acoustics of this era although it is noticeably present, a previous player has offset this by shaving the bridge to drop the action.
Currently the action is medium, with a small amount of room on the saddle for the future, it plays really well even with a slight higher action.
The guitar is best used for flatpicking styles anyway, and the tone is far above where it would usually be at this price point to be fair, if you can get past the cosmetic weatherings and general relic look this is a true keeper!
Ships unrestored and in original un-reworked condition along with the period Japanese case
Enjoy!
