Welcome,
Here is a players classic from Japans finest, K. Yairi.
Very much on par with the Martin D-35 that inspired the design.
With its solid spruce top and high grade three-piece rosewood body, it really sings...
This piece has soul!
Actually sounds a lot better than many actual 70's D-35's we have seen through the shop!
Nice low end rumble with sparkly mid range and highs, not always heard on some of the more expensive USA vintages.
This above average tone is present due to above average use over nearly 50 years, so we can expect character weatherings and traces of use, as pictured, however nothing you could really describe as damage.
There's a lacquer retouch on the left lower bout, otherwise no repairs, this isn't something most people would really notice or even look at twice.
Its a solid contender for anyone looking for a sensible vintage that will hold value, Yairi prices are escalating to the point where it is no longer easy to buy them in Japan at such a realistic price as we offer here.
In addition this piece has a couple of features that are of collector interest:
- the date code on the neck block is 1977 where as the label was signed off in 1978, these crossover models made at the very end of a year, are rare, (if we say that models made in only the last week in a year could have this feature, then the odds are 1 in 52 that your Yairi would have been made in the last week!)
- features the earlier classic Martin dot-pattern inlay on the fretboard, 1977 is the last year to use the circular dots on this model, later years this model has the snowflake design.
