The "Recording Custom"—the foundation of Yamaha's system drums—is an evolution of the legendary "YD9000 Series." Renowned for over 30 years for its clear attack, crisp sustain, and precise beat definition, this flagship model has now been reborn with a focus on maximizing quality.<BR>

At the request of Steve Gadd, the center bead on all shells features a unique "out-bead" (convex) design. This achieves a more open resonance compared to conventional metal-shell snares. It allows for a wide range of sound shaping by effectively controlling volume and shell resonance, all while maintaining a clear, powerful tone.

The aluminum shell is characterized by a brilliant, lightweight, and crisp sound. Its short decay further accentuates this snappy character. Additionally, the 14"x5.5" model comes with an optional 10-strand snare wire—requested by Steve Gadd—to deliver a delicate yet articulate sound. *Not included with the 6.5-inch model.
