This 1978 Fender Telecaster is in very good vintage condition. This instrument shows signs of play wear, age and some modifications throughout including some nicks, small dings and scratches. The original pickguard has been replaced with an older (1980s or 1990s) single ply black pickguard. There is a pretty neatly done route under the pickguard in the middle for a third single coil pickup (Nashville Style) that has since been removed. The potentiometers are later replacements. The pickups have been replaced with an older set of Seymour Duncan Jerry Donahue signature Telecaster pickups and the fingerboard has been professionally refretted. The neck has been professionally reshaped to a nice feeling “V” shaped profile and the back of the neck was refinished. Telecasters from this period typically featured a chunky “U” shaped neck profile. This work was exceptionally well done and appears to have been done long ago as the neck finish blacklights pretty uniform. The serial number on the sticker inside the neck pocket of the body matches the serial number on the peghead face.
This Telecaster features a nicely figured ash body with a killer looking original sunburst finish, a 4 bolt maple neck with a walnut skunkstripe and a nice dark rosewood fingerboard. It retains its original Fender patent stamped bridge with the original barrel saddles and its original F stamped tuning machines. The elongated metal control plate and flat top knurled metal knobs are also original. The neck on this guitar feels fantastic - it is a thinner V shaped profile that is super comfortable to play. This neck isn’t razor thin and it isn’t a super hard V shape - it is very similar to the profile that you would find on an Eric Clapton signature Stratocaster. The rosewood fingerboard is very clean and the refret work was exceptionally well done. This refret was not recent, but the fret wire is still in excellent condition. The frets are medium tall and they show only light wear. This Tele has received a pro set up here in our shop and it plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard with low snappy action and excellent intonation. This is a truly fantastic player! The Seymour Duncan Jerry Donahue pickups sound incredible and this Telecaster delivers a thick snappy tone that is super clear and articulate. This guitar sounds incredible through a Deluxe Reverb but also excels with overdriven tones - just a killer sounding guitar all the way around from chicken pickin' to punk rock! If you are looking for a righteous old Tele with tons of vibe that sounds, plays and looks exceptional… this thing checks all the boxes! This guitar weighs 8lb 4oz and is housed in a cool old 1990s plastic molded Fender case that fits like a glove. This Tele will ship out promptly and securely from our little shop here in Tennessee to your front door!
