Sonic Blue, Alder body, Mid 60’s Oval C shaped Maple neck with a 9.5″ radius AAA Rosewood fingerboard and medium jumbo frets, 25.5″ scale length, 1 5/8th” nut width, Handwound 1960 Relic Strat pickups, 5-way switching with the vintage mod #1 wiring, The neck thickness is .81″ at the first and .93″ at the 12th frets 7.8 pounds, With original hardshell case shown (historically-correct colors and lighter weight than regular vintage-style Fender cases) and all original case candy, including the Fender Custom Shop catalog, leather strap, trem covers, Custom Shop Floor Traveller in its leather binder, extra trem springs, Fender Owner's Manual, etc.
This is a fine Strat. For my preferences it's the most ideal version of the 1960 Strat the Custom Shop has ever produced, with the specs ordered by the venerable Dave's Guitar Shop. The vintage mod #1 wiring puts one tone control on the bridge pickup and one for the neck and middle pickups. This is one of the best wiring types because it gives tone control over the bridge pickup but just one tone pot affecting the bridge + middle position, so that is as clear as the traditional wiring.
The '60 pickups are unusual in having Alnico II magnets, used to simulate the slight weakening of 60-year-old Alnico 5 magnets that would have been used in a 1960 Strat. These pickups, not Texas Specials, were selected by John Cruz for use in the limited Stevie Ray Vaughn "Tribute" Strat. They sound very similar to a set of Abby's Handwound pickups I have in another Strat, and have similar DC resistance measurements. This guitar was the guitar used to record the track in the YouTube clip presented at the end of the photos.
The guitar is currently setup at factory specs using the pricey Thomastik-Infeld Power-Bright strings, .009-.042". I have been setting up and playing Strats for over 40 years, and I've not found anyone who sets them up better than I do. The trem is set to float, and it stays in tune excellently.
This guitar and case are actually in Near Mint condition, with no visible wear other than what the Custom Shop originally inflicted on the guitar. So if you want one in Sonic Blue, you can buy this one, expertly set up, and save several hundred dollars, or pay $4200-5000 for a Brand New one which is unlikely to be set up so well.
I'm only selling this because I recently made a partscaster with a real 1961 Strat neck and some rare Custom Shop parts, so I'm thinning the herd mainly to make more storage space. I'm in no hurry to sell it, so no lowball offers, please. If you can, you'd be smart to buy it now before the shipping costs go up even more, which they probably will for at least the rest of the year.
