Rare Gretsch G6128TSP Duo Jet Custom – George Harrison / Early Beatles Specification
For sale is my rare Gretsch G6128TSP Duo Jet Special Run, a particularly sough-after model created to replicate the specifications and appearance of George Harrison’s original 1957 Gretsch Duo Jet. This model was only manufactured between 2005 and 2006
George purchased his original Duo Jet from an American sailor Ivan Hayward in 1961. This is the specification and appearance associated with that early period — before George later had his Duo Jet painted black during the Hamburg years.
What makes this particular Special Run especially appealing is the attention to the details of George’s original guitar. It features aged binding and aged hump-block inlays along with the vintage style Gretsch logo. Unlike the later Harrison models, the back and sides retain the beautiful natural mahogany finish, closely reflecting the appearance of George’s Duo Jet during the early Beatles/Cavern era.
This DuoJet was produced as a very limited Special Run and this exact specification is no longer available. To my knowledge, there are currently no plans to relaunch it.
It has the lightweight construction associated with the original Duo Jet, featuring:
- Chambered mahogany body
- Arched laminated maple top
- Dual DynaSonic single\-coil pickups
- Gretsch Bigsby tremolo tailpiece
- Roller bridge
- Deluxe high-ratio enclosed tuning machines
- Aged binding
- Aged hump block position inlays
- Vintage style aged Gretsch logo
- Nickel silver frets with very little wear
The combination of the Bigsby, roller bridge and quality hardware makes this an exceptionally tuning stability, even when using the Bigsby extensively.
The guitar is in impeccable condition
I purchased it from a collector in 2021 and am only the second owner from new. Remarkably, it still had the original protective plastic film on it when I bought it.
I have used it exclusively in the studio so it has been extremely well looked after
It plays beautifully and sounds as you would expect… epic!!
It also comes with all of the original paperwork and even the original strings that came with the guitar
I originally chose this model over the newer George Harrison Duo Jet due to a couple of reasons
If you look closely at photographs of George’s original Duo Jet, you can see the aged binding and inlays rather than the bright white finish found on some later reproductions. The contrast of the mahogany back and sides against the black top is another detail I particularly love.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like any further information or have any questions
I’m also very happy for prospective buyers to come and see and play the guitar
