A beautiful and increasingly difficult-to-find Japanese-made Ibanez S540FM from the golden era of the S Series.

This example features the stunning Transparent Black Sunburst finish over highly figured flame maple, with flame maple appearing on both the front and back of the guitar. Combined with the original-style gold hardware, bound rosewood fingerboard and classic ultra-thin S body, this is one of the most visually striking configurations of the 1990s S540FM.

The guitar weighs only 3.47 kg (7.65 lbs).

Condition

Very good overall condition, especially considering its age. A tiny mark of the neck as pictures.

The Transparent Black Sunburst finish remains deep and glossy, and the flame maple figuring is exceptionally attractive under different lighting. The gold hardware shows normal age-related wear/patina, but presents very well overall.

The neck and fingerboard also remain clean and attractive.

Please examine all photos carefully as they form part of the condition description. This is a vintage instrument and normal signs of use and age should be expected.

Why this one is special

The S540FM represents one of the classic Japanese Ibanez S-Series designs of the 1990s: an exceptionally thin sculpted mahogany body combined with figured maple, the legendary Wizard neck and Lo-Pro Edge tremolo.

This 1995 example also carries the QM1 / QMS1 / QM2 HSH pickup set, characteristic of the later evolution of the S540FM.

The combination of Transparent Black Sunburst + flame maple front and back + gold hardware gives this guitar an especially elegant appearance that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in clean condition.
