Up for sale, a 1968 Gibson L-7C in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Gibson's most popular professional-sized archtop, the L-7C is identical in construction to the venerable L-5, with only minor cosmetic differences and the same legendary Gibson Jazz Box tone.

Boasting a full 17" lower bout, hand-carved spruce top, hand-carved curly maple back and sides, and a three-piece curly maple neck capped by a rosewood fingerboard (complete with headstock stinger), this L-7C has a prodigious voice and detailed percussive chop befitting the solid tonewood construction. This archtop offers bouncy trebles, detailed midrange cut, and a rich bass register with smooth low end growl when played with authority. Weighing 5lbs 9oz, this L-7C has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

  • Wood: Curly maple (three-piece, walnut stringers)
  • Shape: Slender C, measuring .800” 1st fret, .980” 9th fret
  • Fretboard: Rosewood, pearl split-block inlay
  • Frets: Medium jumbo, light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7
  • Scale Length: 25 ½”
  • Nut: 1 9/16”, bone (upgraded)
  • Tuners: Kluson Deluxe double-line, double ring
  • Serialization: Six-digit stamp dates to ‘68

Body Specs:

  • Wood: Spruce, curly maple
  • Hardware: Rosewood compensated floating bridge, trapeze raised diamond tailpiece (chrome-plated)
  • Plastics: Four-ply black pickguard

The gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights broad and consistent flame figuring in the maple back and sides, with subtle vertical checking on the top and back. The top is notably clean, with ideal curvature, no sinking, and modest room on the bridge thumbwheels. The center seam has been reglued on top beneath the tailpiece, and there is a second superficial split extending from the bass-side F hole on top (not through the carve and only “finish deep”). Pick wear is limited to the pickguard and does not extend to the top, with a few additional minor nicks and scuffs from very careful use. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

A modern hardshell case is included.
