Gibson 1959 BYRDLAND
Gibson's flagship model from the 1950s, built on the L-5 full-body archtop platform but pursuing greater playability through a thinner, slim-line construction and shorter scale. Since its 1955 debut it has been celebrated as one of Gibson's iconic instruments.
A striking 17-inch-wide body kept to just 2 1/4 inches of depth, paired with a slim neck and 23 1/2-inch scale, delivers superb playability that has captivated players well beyond jazz. Its low-action-friendly construction responds well to a delicate touch.
The biggest highlight is the original PAF pickups: the tone from this 1959-made pair is richly harmonic, with a focused core sound balanced by a smoothness that never turns harsh - a truly ideal balance.
The deep, sweet tone pairs beautifully with jazz, blues, and jazz-blues, which is exactly why players like Eric Clapton, Ted Nugent, and David T. Walker loved this model.
