2024 Vintera II Desert Sand JM, with the return to rosewood fretboards.
This was previously listed with Curtis Novak JM pickups. Those have been removed to resolve a ground hum issue, and will be sold separately.
In great shape cosmetically. Guard may have some scratches. Mostly free of chips, dents, dings as pictured. Frets have some wear, particularly the first few. Neck has minor relief as expected, truss rod access at heel has room to turn either direction. Unsure if neck has been shimmed at all.
The mods I’ve performed :
- Fender Pure Vintage ‘65 pickups installed. See photos. Original pickups not included.
Some modifications were performed before I purchased this used:
- Pickguard shown replaces original factory aluminum guard. I do not have the original guard.
- Cupcake-style knobs replace stock knobs. I do not have the originals.
- Likely has Mastery or American-sized thimbles installed as an aftermarket mod; thimbles are a bit wider and more recessed in body compared to what I’ve seen on most Mexican JM models. Seems like it was done with care, with regards to the finish and body. A Mastery bridge does fit in these thimbles when tested, if you’re inclined to install one. The thimbles being recessed a bit lower result in bridge sitting lower. The bridge currently installed is the stock Vintera II part.
- Tremolo tailpiece appears to be an upgrade to an AVRI, evidenced by the swirly lock button and beveled tip on the arm collet. There is no rubber / plastic gasket inside the collet. I cannot 100% verify this, just an assumption. The trem arm I’m including was one I purchased; a Fender brand aftermarket part and meant for an AVRI tailpiece; it does not currently seem to sink fully into place as it sits well above the tailpiece, but it does fit and has a noticeable click when seated as far as I can get it. Just FYI. You may elect to try a different arm, bend it to your liking, etc.
With regards to amplified output, this guitar does exhibit some ground buzz in the middle position mostly, at bedroom levels, cured when touching the strings. It previously had grounding issues at all positions, but the pickup swap and touch-up of ground solder points helped.
Has some line hum as JM pickups often do. Otherwise, all positions function for both rhythm and lead circuits. The body cavities and underside of guard are shielded with conductive tape.
Pickup selector switch (main one, lead circuit) is a bit scratchy when switching between pickups. Just FYI.
This guitar has not been restrung / set-up in my ownership, and I am not the original owner. Factors like new strings, intonation, neck angle modification, action, bridge height and all things general set-up related will be up to the buyer.
No case / bag.
No returns.
