Offered here is an exceptionally clean Made-in-Japan Tama Artwood Custom AW216 14x6.5 Snare Drum in the original Piano Black lacquer finish, recently acquired from the original owner who purchased the drum through a local Tama dealer around 1992.
After comparing the hardware, size, shell configuration, finish, badge, serial number, and the 1992 Tama catalog page, this drum closely matches the AW216 Artwood Custom specification from the Tama catalog. The AW216 was cataloged as a 6.5x14 Artwood Custom featuring a birch shell with covering, Sure-Tune long lugs, Power Action strainer, and die-cast hoops.
I was told these drums have been in the case for over 20 years. One area inside the shell looks to have a glue spot on the seam line. Zero separation.
