This Hi-Fi speaker is in fair condition. Our 7-point functional test was completed in full: all checks passed except no rattle and binding posts. Note: Both speakers are cosmetically very good, with hardly any surface marks or scratches. However, the 3.5mm jack input on both speakers is faulty: the slightest movement of the input causes a high-pitched buzzing sound. Audio does play through and sounds great, but the faulty inputs cause a definite issue when moved or touched. Please review all photos carefully, as they provide an accurate representation of the cosmetic condition of the product.

About this model

The Acoustic Energy AE1 Active is a fully active, bi-amped standmount loudspeaker with two 50W Class A/B amplifiers in each cabinet, fed by linear power supplies. A 125mm Pure Piston ceramic aluminium mid/bass driver and a 27mm aluminium dome tweeter in a Wide Dispersion Technology waveguide are split by an active 4th order Linkwitz-Riley crossover at 3.5kHz. The signal path is entirely analogue, with no DSP or built-in DAC, and the speakers take balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. Integrated analogue volume and ±2dB bass and treble dials allow room tuning, and the slot-ported cabinet delivers a quoted frequency response of roughly 40Hz to 25kHz.
