• In servicing MPC 2000s for years, I have found this extra boot ROM extremely handy for identifying if a mainboard is dead or if the ROM itself is at fault. Swapping in a known-good boot ROM has revived many MPC 2000s—though this isn’t always guaranteed for every case.
• The OS 1.72 boot disk is not included with this kit, but is available separately in another listing. If you also need the disk, please see my other items or message me for more information.
• If your boot ROM is corrupted, the unit will not boot any OS 1.72 disk, regardless of how many you try.
• Before purchasing, try removing and reseating your existing boot ROM in the socket. In some cases, this simple step can restore function without needing a replacement.

How to Check for Boot ROM Issues

• If your MPC 2000 powers up to a blank screen or fails to load the operating system from disk, and reseating the chip doesn't help, the boot ROM may be faulty or corrupted.

Installation Guidance

• No soldering needed — carefully remove the existing EPROM and insert the new one with the notch aligned properly as per instructions.
• Observe standard ESD safety procedures when handling and installing the EPROM chip.
