Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1968 Les Paul Custom Ultra Light Aged - JGR (#918)
See similar listings
In the summer of 1968, Gibson did something new. At great demand, it introduced the first "Reissue" in history within its catalog: the Les Paul Custom was put back into production, having been discontinued nearly ten years prior.
However, the 1968 Les Paul Custom was something different. The body was no longer made entirely of mahogany; it featured a maple top, which provided a brighter tone. It was the precursor to the Les Paul Custom model that we still find in the Gibson catalog today.
The 1968 Les Paul Custom celebrates this iconic and historic model by recreating it with meticulous attention to detail.
This version, made as a special order under the Made 2 Measure program, is characterized by a Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged finish as well as a stunningly rare Jade Green finish.
The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates the same aging conditions of the finish found on original vintage instruments through natural processes, rather than manual methods. The ultra-thin finishes exhibit a noticeable and consistent "crackle," providing an absolutely authentic feel. It truly feels like holding a vintage original instrument, but with all the quality and performance that only the Gibson Custom Shop can offer today.
