What pedals did all of us buy most often this year? There are a lot of Bosses, as always, and plenty of well known modern classics from Keeley, Line 6, MXR, and more. But this year there are some new entrants that you might not have seen coming.
These annual best-selling music gear lists have become something of a tradition around here, allowing us to see which guitars, synths, recording equipment, and more resonated the most with musicians.
It's worth noting that the vast majority of sales on this list came from you: the community of musicians who actively use Reverb to sell. In a way, this data is not only what the buying community found most appealing, but also what musicians decided to part with to make room for fresh pieces to their music-making rigs.
Every day this week, we're posting best-selling lists for various categories and sub-categories of music gear. If you haven't already checked out the rest, you can find them all here: 2024's best-selling guitars, 2024's best-selling electronic gear, and 2024's best-selling recording gear.
Note: As in previous years, best-seller rankings are determined by the total order count—that is, by the actual number of items sold, not by the total price of sold items. These lists exclude items that were exclusively for sale on Reverb, like some limited-edition runs of pedals. And all lists include brand new and used sales unless otherwise noted.
Key takeaways
Our rankings begin by comparing the sales of only those pedals that were first released in 2024, and it's quite an exciting list. At the very top: IK Multimedia's ToneX One, which narrowly clinched the No.1 spot, with Hologram Electronics' latest, the Chroma Console, coming in as a close second.
The ToneX One is a very miniature pedal that gives you access to 25,000+ virtual effects and amps in the ToneX ecosystem, so perhaps its not too surprising that it would be such a big hit. The fact that it beat out the Chroma Console—which sold in very large numbers and quickly became a fixture in many artists' rigs this year—is a testament to just how much utility it provides.
Top-selling Reverb exclusives of 2024
As always in our annual lists, we withhold any pedals that were exclusively sold on Reverb. And whenever we might have a limited-edition colorway that's not available anywhere else, we do not count those orders in the best-selling rankings either. But we will take the opportunity here to call out several top-sellers you could only find on Reverb in 2024, including:
- Way Huge WM20JB Deep State Joe Bonamassa Signature (sidenote: you can actually enter to win a Deep State played by Joe Bonamassa right now)
- Third Man Hardware X Donner Triple Threat and other great new pedals found in Third Man Hardware's official Reverb shop
- Death By Audio's Cyberpunk Edition of the Time Shadows II (even with these specific sales withheld, the standard-edition pedal was No. 12 in our list above)
- Two 2024 releases by Rush's Alex Lifeson—the Snow Dog octave fuzz and Blah Blah wah—which you can only buy in the Official Lerxst Reverb Shop
Key takeaways
Among the tried-and-true classics in this overall pedal list, there are some new contenders, including the brand new ToneX One and Chroma Console that were this year's breakout releases, and also the Keeley Halo Dual Echo Andy Timmons. Released in 2022, it was an instant hit then whose popularity continues. Perhaps we have a new modern classic on our hands.
Key takeaways
A lesson that many guitarists learn early on is that you simply can't go wrong with a Boss pedal. They're built like small tanks, they sound great, and their used value persists—or even grows—over time, meaning you'll pretty much always get your money back if you decide to sell.
Well, lesson learned, everyone. Individual Boss effects secured 55% of the top 20 best-selling used effects spots, from the ever-popular BD-2 Blues Driver to the RC-1 Loop Station.
But none reached the very top. That honor goes to the Line 6 HX Stomp, which has been a mainstay of our best-selling lists since 2020.
Beyond individual pedals, how do brands rank when we take total sales of all effects into account?
