The Gibson J-45 was first introduced in 1942 and remains one of Gibson’s most popular acoustic guitars to this day. It has earned its reputation as a “workhorse” due to its widespread appeal, no-frills simplicity, and understated elegance. It is one of the most recorded acoustic guitars in history and Gibson’s best-selling acoustic model of all time. The new Gibson J-45 Special is meticulously handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson’s experienced acoustic guitar builders, offering players a U.S.-made Gibson acoustic guitar at a very attractive price. The J-45 Special features a round-shoulder body with a back and sides made of genuine solid mahogany, while the solid top is crafted from Sitka spruce. The top is reinforced with our traditional scalloped X-bracing. This combination of tonewoods produces a warm, balanced tone with an excellent dynamic range, making it suitable for any musical genre. The Concert Depth body is slightly thinner than that of a standard J-45, giving the J-45 Special a sleeker and tighter bass response that blends perfectly into the mix. It also makes the guitar easier to hold. The Sipo mahogany neck is joined to the body via a dovetail joint and, as with all Gibson acoustic guitars, is secured with hide glue. The neck features a comfortable and responsive SlimTaper profile, and the rosewood fingerboard with a 12-inch radius is adorned with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays and features 20 standard frets. The traditional Belly Up rosewood bridge features a TUSQ bridge insert, and the nut and bridge pins are also made of TUSQ. High-quality Grover Rotomatic tuning machines ensure solid tuning stability. The J-45 Special is finished with a satin nitrocellulose lacquer. It features an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze piezo pickup beneath the bridge insert with active electronics and an easily accessible volume control in the soundhole, providing studio-quality plug-and-play capability anywhere. The J-45 Special also comes with a high-quality softshell case.
