LOMO 82A-5M Cardioid Dynamic Microphone — NOS, 1970s, USSR

I’m excited to present a truly one-of-a-kind find – the Soviet LOMO 82A-5MU2 microphone, still sealed in its original box, untouched since the 1970s! This remarkable piece has been waiting decades to be discovered, and I decided not to open the box cause I want to leave this indescribable pleasure of unpacking the Soviet time capsule to you.

Now a little about the microphone itself.

The Lomo 82a-5my2 is a cardioid dynamic microphone, produced in the Soviet Union from around 1960 till into the Eighties. It was used for speech and music, in both live sound, and in studios. It has a pretty large diaphragm and is useful for bassy instruments, like floor toms, kick and bass-guitar. Also they are great for any string instruments, and excellent for vocals and drums. The low end is very warm but still tight with a sparkling high end. The higher frequencies around 10.000 Hz are also accentuated, like in the modern AKG D 12 VR, intended for kick-drum.
Some of these microphones made it to the West in the Seventies; rumor has it that Pink Floyd used it for their recording of 'Dark Side of the Moon', at Abbey Road Studios, as a drum and guitar microphone. Mic also use numbers of great engineers like Joe Chiccarelli and Ethan Johns.
The 82A-5 can still be found in vintage studios today, like Lomo's top model; It is a pleasant velvet vintage sound.
