With a slot for a hardware expansion tone generator board known as the XG Plug-in Board, this model ushered in new possibilities for XG tone generators.

The plug-in board makes it possible to add a VL tone generator or a Formant Singing Board for vocals to the AMW2 tone generator of the main unit.
