Gibbons is inevitably associated with one guitar in particular, his '59 Les Paul aka “Pearly Gates.” In 2009 the Gibson Custom Shop released a limited edition series in honor of Billy and his legendary Paula with only 50 specimens of the “Aged & Signed” version being produced. These are now certainly among the most sought-after and coveted Les Pauls and are considered one of the best '59 replicas on the market. Tom Murphy personally took care of the entire aging process and the 50 hand-signed guitars were also all played by Billy Gibbons himself. Of course this guitar is an absolute collector's item and prices have been rising steadily in recent years. But beyond that it's also a damn good Les Paul that can impress across the board even when played dry. Seymour Duncan's “Pearly Gates” humbuckers were used as pickups, which together with the guitar's fantastic vibration behavior produce an incredible tone!
