Video: JHS Announces New Pink Panther Delay

Josh Scott and the crew over at JHS pedals have never been ones to rest on their pedal laurels. While their lineup includes an array of vibrant drives, delays, and other effects, the Kansas City–based boutique is always adding new effects to its catalog and updating old ones.

About a year ago, for instance, JHS introduced revised versions of most of their core pedals with user–requested improvements, like external expression control.

In the case of the newly relaunched Pink Panther delay, it's been almost a decade since the original big box effect Pink Panther was introduced amongst the first wave of JHS products in 2008. At the time, JHS only built about 100 Pink Panthers, making originals — like their namesake — quite elusive gems indeed. An original will typically sell for over $500 on the used market.

The new Pink Panther offers the same tonal base as the original, with many of the innovations that pedalheads in 2017 have come to expect. Added features include "dark" and "ratio" controls, in addition to the standard set of "mix," "time," and "repeat." There's also a slick "mod" mode selector, which affects the shimmer and warble of the delay trails.

It's worth noting that in the interim since the original Pink Panther was being built, JHS has launched a few other "Panther"–themed delays. Yet while the Panther Delay and smaller Panther Cub are classic, analog bucket brigade–based circuits, the Pink Panther is a digital affair, channeling — according to JHS — early digital delays, like the Boss DD–5 and Ibanez DE7.
