Here for sale we have an exceptionally rare Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Hall of Fame Edition in All-Gold or Double Gold finish. The Hall of Fame series was introduced in 1991 with the Les Paul Deluxe as a very limited run of up to 250 units worldwide. The instruments have remained highly sought after & collectible in the 35 years since, and are likely one of the rarest production Gibson guitars you will find. A later Gibson Jimi Hendrix Flying V Hall of Fame Edition instrument was produced between '91 & '93 up to 400 units worldwide.
Of course produced in 1991, this Les Paul deluxe Hall of Fame Edition features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany body with Carved Maple top, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. A Chrome StopBar tailpiece & Nashville bridge are fitted, along with a set of NIckel Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with 'Tulip' buttons. A pair of Gibson PU-120 mini humbucking pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch & independent volume & tone controls.
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with a profile which might be described as a Rounded 'C' shape, slightly on the larger side. This works well for a wide range of playing styles and techniques, with everything from chunky blues & rock riffing down to tricky lead lines and solos easily achievable here. The Rosewood of the fingerboard is nice & dark in appearance, and provides a smooth & durable playing surface to explore. With it's traditional 12" radius & fret nibs, the neck feels authentically traditional to play.
The PU-120 Mini Humbuckers installed in this guitar are sought after for their unique sound, famously favoured by Pete Townshend of The Who, who used these pickups during the 1970's. With a tone that is somewhere between a full-size humbucker and a single coil, the sound is reminiscent of a PAF humbucker. Their smooth attack adds a grind when the amp is pushed into distortion, and the physically smaller size of the pickup results in a more mid-focused and brighter tone. This is an exquisitely preserved example of a very rare Les Paul, perfect for the player searching for an authentic LP Deluxe tone and their own genuine & exclusive piece of Gibson's history.
