Transitional Model Tribute

In early 1965, the original Firebird design underwent a series of notable transformations. One of the key changes involved the introduction of the Non-Reverse headstock shape. Unlike the original Reverse Firebird, which featured a two-layer headstock with a holly veneer, the new design showcased a flatter headstock, reminiscent of a platypus bill. This "Platypus-style" Firebird also adopted six-in-line tuners, replacing the previous banjo-style tuners. 

The Firebird Platypus honors these rare transitional models, combining classic design with modern features. It boasts a mahogany body paired with a set neck, offering the look of a traditional neck-through Reverse Firebird. The mahogany neck is built for speed with a SlimTaper profile and features a rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and acrylic trapezoid inlays. The Platypus-style headstock is equipped with a Graph Tech nut and Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners, and has been slightly adjusted for improved string pull and enhanced tuning stability. 

For flawless intonation and exceptional sustain, the strings run over a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and are anchored by an aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece. The Firebird's bold design is matched by its equally distinctive tone. The two historically accurate Firebird mini humbucker pickups, loaded with Alnico 5 magnets, offer a bell-like chime on clean tones and punchy rock and blues sounds when pushed. Individual volume and tone controls allow for precise tonal adjustments, while the classic hot-stamped Firebird graphic on the pickguard adds the perfect finishing touch.
