First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird™ is one of the most distinctive and well-loved acoustic guitars ever made. Handcrafted with care in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson’s expert acoustic luthiers, the new Gibson Hummingbird Special offers players a USA-built Gibson Hummingbird model at a very attractive price. The Hummingbird Special features a traditional square-shouldered body, constructed from genuine solid mahogany for the back and sides, and a solid Sitka spruce top reinforced with Gibson's traditional scalloped X-bracing. This combination of tonewoods delivers a warm, balanced tone with excellent dynamic range that is perfect for any style of music. The “concert depth” body is slightly thinner than the body on a Hummingbird Standard, giving it a leaner, tighter bass response that sits perfectly in the mix and also makes it easier to hold. The utile neck is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint, and like all Gibson acoustic guitars, it is affixed with hot hide glue. The neck has a comfortable Round profile, and the rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius and features pearloid parallelogram inlays, which is one of the visual hallmarks that make the Hummingbird easily recognizable. The fretboard is fitted with 20 standard frets and adorned with pearloid parallelogram inlays.
