This is a 2006 Gibson Custom Shop SG Standard Reissue with Maestro tailpiece in Faded Cherry VOS or Vintage Original Spec finish, also known as the Historic 1961 Les Paul, or LP SG STD VOS. At the time, the Custom Shop had only been making these SG Standard reissue models for about 6 years, and this was the first year that they offered the VOS finish, which uses a slightly dulled finish and aged nickel hardware.

This one started life as a Faded Cherry (that's what the finish is called: Faded Cherry), but has faded to a lovely warm orangey brown finish all over - you can still see the original cherry finish under the pickguard, tenon cover and pickup rings. This colour on the super stripy mahogany used on this particular guitar, looks absolutely incredible from every angle.

This one appears to be all original, and in very good condition, and comes with the original Gibson Custom shop hard case and case candy. The original Certificate of Authenticity has been lost somewhere during it's 20 year life, but I have contacted Gibson, and they confirmed this guitar shipped from them on July 27th 2006.

The neck on this one is a super comfortable medium C, or what Gibson called their 1960 Slip Taper neck profile - it's a little thicker than the USA Standard '61 Reissue models, starting out at 21.7mm at the 1st fret, and making its way up to 23.9mm by the 12th fret - it's definitely not a baseball bat, but not super thin either. It's also a wide neck - so if you like your SG to have a little more substance, you'll love this neck.

The rosewood used for the fretboard on this one is a really nice medium brown, almost orange, colour that pairs really well with the now faded cherry finish on this guitar.

The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, but there's not much play wear across the board, and overall the frets have lots of life left in them, and this guitar plays excellent up and down the entire neck.

The original nickel covered Gibson Burstbucker 1 (neck) and 2 (bridge) humbuckers sound fantastic. To my ears, these are a little warmer and a little more rounded than the Gibson '57 Classic pickups, with great harmonics, a good amount of breath to them, and great dynamics, that just sound amazing through an overdriven amp, but they can also clean up really well.

All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.

I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).

Comes with the original Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case with crushed burgundy plush interior. The case is in used shape, with some peeling of the tolex/vinyl off the bottom side of the case. All of the latches and hinges are in tact and function properly. Also comes with all of the original hang tags, Custom Care Guide, Gibson Yamaha Music manual, Gibson Warranty bookly, and case key.

Overall, this is a rarely seen, incredible looking, playing and sounding SG.

If you're a fan of SG's or a Gibson Collector, you'll want this SG in your collection today.

CONDITION ------------

Overall it's in very good player grade shape.

I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.

The finish has faded to a warm orange-brown finish all over the guitar.

Over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, neck and headstock, there are very few minor dings, dents, and fine scratches.

There is a blemish on the side of the bass side of the lower bout of the body - looks like it rubbed against something.

The fretboard binding has some small cracks along both sides of the fretboards. The cracks are solid - they don't move, and you can't feel them when you rub your finger along them or while playing.

There's some minor buckle rash and/or worming on the back of the body.

Around the strap buttons there's some minor strap marks/swirling.

The nickel hardware, bridge, tailpiece, tuners, and screws came from the factory with a VOS finish, or slightly aged, and they still look like that - they are all in great shape, everything works as expected, and there is a consistent patina across all of the hardware.

There are some small dents on the face of the Maestro cover.

The white grip on the Maestro arm had cracked (not fully) but has been repaired (glued, sanded and polished) and works as expected and feels smooth to the touch when in use.

The black plastics all look aged - it's hard to tell what scratches and stains are from use vs. from the factory - but they are all in tact, all look consistent, and all work as expected.

All of the original unmarked double ring tuners are straight and work properly.

The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, but there is not much play wear on the fretboard, and overall there is lots of life left in these frets, and the guitar plays excellent up and down the entire fretboard.

The truss rod works as expected with room in both directions.

There no signs of a headstock, heel or any other repairs.
