Beautiful 1954 Silvertone H710 archtop with that classic Chicago-made tone. Nickname: “Minnesota Fats”!
This is a gorgeous guitar, set up well, and feels so nice in the hands.
Harmony-built in Chicago and sold through Sears, Roebuck & Co. under the Silvertone brand, this example features a warm sunburst finish with white painted faux binding around the body. The headstock has the awesome art deco Silvertone logo as used in the 1950s (i.e the best Silvertone logo of all IMO). Internal stamps: “F-54-7 MADE IN USA”, “3288H710”, “FVP”.
The pick guard is missing and the two small screw holes remain.
It is currently strung with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky nickel wound strings. It tunes up and plays nicely. Comfortable action (approximately 2.5 - 3mm at the 12th fret on the bass side) means it plays far easier than many surviving examples from this era. The chunky neck is delightfully strangle-able. Frets have still got a lot of life left.
A strong, full-bodied rhythm and slide guitar with classic mid-century catalog archtop bark.
